MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY -- OCTOBER 22, 2011
Altrusa Intl. Inc. of Southwest Dallas County Foundation used Ernie Roberts Park on Saturday, October 21, 2011 for our Make a Difference Day Shred-a-Thon. The park was the perfect location and in the 3 hours we were available, we had at least 50-60 people come by to use the services of Sierra Shred and to help us make this year’s Make a Difference Day at huge success. All in all, we made more than $650 and collected more than 175 books. The people using our services had the choice of donating $5 per bag or box or a new or gently used children’s book in order to have their shredding completed on site.
This was our second Shred-a-Thon, and we more than doubled what we had collected last year when we were in a location that was not nearly as accessible as Ernie Roberts Park in DeSoto.
We will be presenting a check and books to the Storybook Project through the Texas Inmate Families Association at our November 10, 2011 meeting. We hope that in future service projects, we can again turn to the City of DeSoto for support in helping us to be successful.
Many thanks to the City of DeSoto, Sierra Shred and all the members who volunteered their time to make this project so successful.
